American English

Use American English for all generated text and code, including:

User-facing messages, comments, documentation, and commit messages
String literals, log messages, error text, and UI copy in code
Variable and identifier names only when they are natural-language words (e.g. prefer color over colour, initialize over initialise)

British or other regional spellings are acceptable only when required by an existing API, library, protocol, or quoted external text.
