# American English

Use American English for all generated text and code, including:
|
|
|
|
- User-facing messages, comments, documentation, and commit messages
|
|
- String literals, log messages, error text, and UI copy in code
|
|
- Variable and identifier names only when they are natural-language words (e.g. prefer `color` over `colour`, `initialize` over `initialise`)
|
|
|
|
British or other regional spellings are acceptable only when required by an existing API, library, protocol, or quoted external text. |
